We've just finished our post-production after Andrew and Paz's wedding on Saturday. The weather was just perfect, the trip down the river a great treat for everybody, especially family and friends who had come to London from Spain for the occasion.

On honeymoon now in Hawaii and California, we are very much looking forward to showing Mr and Mrs Mottram their wedding photographs.

So many of our couples have become parents recently that we've decided to start a 'Watch me grow!' set of photo shoots for babies.

The idea is simple. We have a comfy, purpose studio at the bottom of our garden with natural light, a place to change, sheepskin rugs aplenty , tea/coffee/herbal drinks to hand.

You visit with your baby visit, by appointment, for for three photo sessions.
1. your first visit will be when your baby is tiny (1-4 months)
2. your second visit will be when s/he is sitting (7-8 months)
3. your third will be when s/he can stand, holding on (12 months)

After about 3 weeks, you’ll return to the studio to view each entire photoshoot.

You’ll be able to choose a photo from each session which will be made up into a triple mounted framed picture and given to you after your third session.

It was a gorgeous sunny day today and the Great Conservatory looked fantastic. Will and Becky represented West London Photography for part of the day and enjoyed meeting several couples who are on the point of booking this amazing venue.

It's sheer pleasure to capture images for no reason at all apart for the fun of it. Sometimes, abstract patterns catch the eye, with their colour, texture and pattern. And light, of course. Here are some from around our hotel in Hurgada, after an inspirational session with Llewellyn Robbins.

We've been away in Egypt for the past fortnight, staying at Hurgada on the Red Sea. It was quite an experience!

We'd gone to attend the PTO international photographic conference run by George and Glenys Dawber. It's a brilliant way to keep up to date on all things photographic, including the creative side of our art and the technical skills you need to make really great images.

Ours is fast moving industry where you can't ever rest on your laurels. In a busy studio like ours, it's difficult to take time out for training and updating - it's hopeless in the summer with weddings every weekend. So January is the best time and winter sun is always welcome.

We’d left just as the crowds were beginning to gather in Tahrir Square and the first week was a bit uncertain. Then the hotel was vast and emptied dramatically as tourists were flying back home and no one took their place.

Trips we cancelled which limited the photo opps hugely. We’d hoped to go to Luxor, or out in a boat but it wasn’t possible. The internet was cut off which was fine, but the tv was showing bigger and bigger crowds and Mubarak still wouldn’t go. It was a relief to get to the airport and away. Having said that, all the Egyptians we met were charming, helpful and they did all they could to make our seminars and our holiday enjoyable.

We’d go back again like a shot.

We wish you a very happy New Year, especially if it's your first as a married couple. 2010 was great, with lots to celebrate despite the gloomy forecasts and we enjoyed each and every one of the weddings we photographed.

2011 is shaping up as THE year to get married. We're excited about the ones we're already booked for and still have some dates free, should you make a big decision on New Year's Eve. It's reckoned that's one of the most popular dates for a romantic proposal.

Just back from holiday in Liguria

Sorry - we've been out of touch for 3 weeks after photographing our last wedding of our busiest season ever. Liguria was wonderful and we'd recommend it highly as a honeymoon destination.

Wedding at St Peter's Petersham

Liz and Mark Pietronave married at St Peter's Petersham on Saturday - they are honeymooning in Peru and later Miami. We've taken some beautiful photographs of their day and look forward very much to showing them.

Their reception was at the Richmond Hill Hotel. Wonderful.

A special mention about their service: the Reverend Canon Tim Marwood was particularly welcoming to everyone. The Church is a gem: most unusually, the service was held in the centre with the bridal party in box pews. A real sense of intimacy, which made the vows exchanged doubly meaningful. The Church is beautifully kept and the Church Warden who attended did his part to make the day go smoothly for everyone.

Heating in the conservatory at Syon Park

A beautiful day in May. Juliet was a gorgeous bride, elegant and sophisticated, her dress stunning and her Jummy Choos to die for. She and Ali are due back from honeymoon this weekend and their Syon wedding photos will be online shortly.

The flowers were by Wheelers of Turnham Green and were perfect. White was the theme which blended perfectly with the black and white of Robert Adam's interior.

The weather was kind but even so, with Juliet in her amazing dress and other guests wearing light clothes, the evening reception could have been on the chill side. The couple asked us for advice and we told them we've seen guests eating their wedding breakfast in the Conservatory with their overcoats on. Help was at hand with the company who supply heating at Syon - Carrier rental express.

The Vineyard Stockcross is a great wedding venue in Berkshire for discerning couples who enjoy the finer things in life. We've been photographing weddings for many years now at The Vineyard and we talk about it on our website.

Last August we were there again for Victoria and David - it was a very wet day and their plans could have been badly upset, but The Vineyard is such a cosy venue that it made no difference at all. The rain cleared up in time for the fireworks and everyone really enjoyed themselves.

Have your wedding plans been affected by the volcano in Iceland? We had a pre-wedding shoot booked for this weekend but the Bride-to-be is stranded in Ibiza. Hopefully she will be back for her wedding in three weeks.

So what should you do if your plans are compromised? Put in a call to your insurance company as a priority. Some travel insurance policies will cover volcanic eruptions, many don't..

Specialist insurer E&L said, 'Unfortunately E&L Insurance does not offer any compensation or reimbursement of cost through our wedding insurance packages in light of the flight disruptions caused by volcanic ash. This is clearly stated in our policy wording and although it is an unavoidable act of god, we are unable to pay out on claims as a result of this natural disaster. Wedding Insurance however, does cover the vast majority of issues relating to your wedding, both in the UK and overseas, so it is always worth taking out a policy to help protect your special day.'

If you end up paying for extras due to the flight disruption, make sure you hold on to receipts to follow up later with your airline, tour operator or travel insurance agent. Bear in mind, that in most cases only reasonable expenses will be covered.

Wedding venue The Vyne Hampshire

The Vyne wedding venue in Hampshire? Do you know it?

We made a private visit it on Sunday - it had just opened the day before and it's absolutely enchanting. The info tells you that it was a Tudor power house, but what comes over is the charm of a much loved family home.

The volunteers 'on duty' were so welcoming, with just the right amount of information to tell you about a strange portrait. And there were a few of those - a scene of a father and mother receiving a letter telling them their son had died. Or a 6 year old called Chrysostoma done up like Queen Elizabeth 1, deathly pale and bejewelled.

There were fresh spring flowers in most of the rooms, a volunteer playing a forte piano beautifully adding to the period note and carpets of snowdrops and crocuses in the grounds. The Tudor Brewhouse did a great local blue cheese quiche and there was a free cup of tea an slice of Victoria sandwich for all Mums - it was Mothering Sunday of course.

Most brides are rather shy, we find, and don't particularly look forward to being photographed.

It sometimes seems strange to us, as pretty much without exception, all the brides we've photographed look amazing on their wedding day.

They're so happy and excited that they go with the flow and if they've allowed enough time for us, we get some great shots.

And some, like our glamorous Russian bride Ekaterina, love the camera and the camera loves her. It's partly about being relaxed and enjoying the moment.

But some brides just aren't relaxed. Often it's because everything has taken much longer than planned and time has run out. And others are so organised, like the bride who had her day planned by 5 minute chunks, all worked out and on view on an Excel spreadsheet. Nothing was left to chance, and actually a bit of spontaneity is essential on your wedding day.

PTO inspiration from Llewelyn Robbins and Su Kaye

One of the big discoveries at Photo Training Overseas was the pleasure of taking macro photographs of flowers using a pocket camera. Su Kaye was due to give a seminar on macrophotography but at the last minute she couldn't make it and Llewelyn Robbins took her place.

His session was the highlight of the week, as far as I'm concerned. He showed us some of Su's work which was stunning. Each image was a work of art and would look fantastic on any gallery wall.

This Turkish alpine flower was minuscule but makes a great picture against the sky. I found it in the ruins of the ancient city of Perge. It's going up on our wall, together with the best of the images of all other delicate blooms we saw.

Romantic Scottish castle weddings

There's nothing more romantic than a wedding in a Scottish castle and Pittodrie House in Aberdeenshire is nothing if not romantic. We flew up for Nadia and Ryan's November wedding

We find that some London based brides and grooms like to work with a London based photographer - it's more convenient for pre-wedding consultations, the pre-wedding shoot and album selection.

And we love to travel for our work. It keeps us fresh and up to date. Pittodrie House is a short drive from Aberdeen airport and only a cheap flight away from Heathrow.

This time of year, with the start of a busy wedding season only weeks away now, it's very refreshing to take a week out and visit Photo Training Overseas. This year it was held on the Mediterranean coast in Antalya, Turkey.

The training we get updates our skills in many aspects of photography, particularly advanced lighting, composition and image manipulation skills. Top professionals from around the world share their knowledge with participants and time is set aside for special hands on workshop sessions to allow us to try out new techniques and ideas before returning to our studio in Ealing.

In the photo you see Lyn and Jeff Ellis who displayed a fabulous collection of Albums Australia. These beautiful albums are world class with beautiful covers and dynamic pages. Mike Roper set up this shot for the delegates to take in a useful exercise on how to take an excellent PR photo for the press.

A Barbeque summer? Hardly

Well it wasn't. Umbrellas were the order of the day. Some are very fetching - we always carry a good supply of white ones which let the light through. Here's Julie at the Danesfield Hotel, keeping calm and carrying on.

A comforting feature - at no wedding last summer did we find we were unable to shoot all the photographs the bride and groom had requested. It never rained the whole day long and by everyone being flexible, we beat the weather.

We're just blown away by the quality of the newest album, the Bellissimo, which has arrived in our studio. We feature Katie and Patrick's wedding at Syon Park last September and these photographs are of them practising their first dance, away from their guests, who are partying in the Inner Courtyard.

They made the most of the Great Hall, without chairs and loved just getting away from it all for a few moments rest.

We're back from our far away travels and preparing for a busy and happy 2010. Last year was one of our busiest ever, with weddings at our favourite venues and some new to us. Maybe the highlight was Theresa and Ryan's wedding in Albany, Western Australia.

Here they are just married, about to go to their wedding breakfast and then on to their honeymoon in Cairns.

It was their spring, our autumn and the setting just out of this world. We couldn't believe the size of these enormous gum trees. The specimens in Kew Gardens, just across the river from us, are minute in comparison.

It was a 23 hour flight from London to Perth with a short stop over in Bruneii. And after all that travelling, it seemed a good idea to make a proper break and get to know Western Australia really well.

And now, after a couple of months away, we're back after the long holiday and ready for the new wedding season which begins for us in April.

Saturday was a beautiful spring day and Syon Park looked wonderful. Beccy Thorpe and Victoria Corke invited over a hundred couples who had either booked Syon Park as their wedding venue or were planning to hold their ceremony and/or reception there.

It was a great opportunity for us photographers to show our work and share our experiences of photographing weddings at Syon House.

Eleana's dress was out of a fairy tale for her wedding at The Mandarin Oriental. Her veil was the crowning touch and we photographers love the way it falls softly over her shoulders. Very flattering.

Nadia chose a beautiful classic gown with long sleeves for her winter wedding in a glamorous Scottish castle. And her soft veil is flattering and frames her face to perfection. She loves Butler and Wilson jewelry and when she took her veil off for the evening party, she put on some really spectacular earrings.

Patrick Ciatto at PTO - what camera do you use?

Florida based Patrick Ciatto gave us a welcome masterclass at Photo Training Overseas in Egypt.

He ran through and demonstrated the 5 main ways of lighting portraits in a flattering way and then showed how to position groups so that eveyone looked their best. He showed us at what angle to hold the camera and what to ask the group to say to guarantee a smile. And no, it wasn't 'cheese'.

He told us that when he's asked what sort of camera he uses, he says 'a black one'. That really sums it up. Given the photographer is a professional, why do you need to know? The title of his talk was 'The camera never had an idea'.

Kelly Hearn at PTO in Egypt

Kelly Hearn was one of the most inspirational photographers at the Photo Training Overseas conference in Taba Heights, Egypt.

She is quickly climbing to the top of her profession in the wedding industry, has already achieved her ABIPP qualification and is an excellent teacher.

Kelly developed a passion for photography when studying for her GCSE's and she has worked hard to build up an impressive portfolio.

Kelly runs her weddings in much the same way as we do. She has all the technical side of photography sorted and always works with a light meter, tripod and set of steps which her supportive husband carries for her on the day.

The Sofitel in Taba was a fabulous location and there were many locations where you'd love to photograph a Bride and Groom. Kelly made the most of these but also took the trouble to work in a less glamorous corner of the hotel, which is rather more typical of some UK wedding venues, particularly when it rains.

Amateur photographers often understand their cameras, but when photographing a wedding you need to consider how to position the Bride and Groom and how to make the most of available light to avoid harsh, unflattering flash lighting. Excellent shopping experience in Monsoon in Westfield

Just back from Egypt, and a sudden request to find a glamorous dress for a young singer making her debut with a internationally famous Big Band. We only have a couple of hours and the performance is tomorrow.

Where to go in this cold, slushy city? Westfield is the obvious choice in west London. But it's enormous and the choice can be overwhelming.

Monsoon's shop window caught our eye and in we went. A gentle and charming young woman greeted us and asked if she could help. Usually, I quite like to browse and look after myself, but this time we accepted the offer.

It was an excellent experience and Rebecca and I warmly recommend the services of Silvana Borg. She knew her stuff and talked to us to find out more about the occasion. She quickly picked out half a dozen dresses, all of which looked good.

There was no pressure to buy and Rebecca looked fantastic in the first dress she tried on. In fact, she was so pleased she didn't bother with the rest. Silvana then showed us co-ordinating shoes and costume jewelry. Perfect.

The items weren't the cheapest but they will be worn often and give great pleasure, And we will certainly return to Monsoon to ask Silvana to help us with our spring wardrobe.

PTO Egypt Phil Jones SWPP CEO

Meet a very generous man, Phil Jones, Chief Executive Officer of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers, SWPP for short.

Our good friend, Gurwinder Soor, from http://www.eastwestphotography.com/ recommended we join SWPP a couple of years ago. We did, and learned a lot. This year's conference in Hammersmith was a massive success, with over 12.000 delegates attending.

Imagine our delight when we heard that Phil Jones, together with his wife and business partner Juliet Jones, were attending PTO in Egypt. there had been no chance to spend time with Phil in Hammersmith, occupied as he was with organising one of the biggest photo conferences in the world.

But here he was in Egypt, temporarily in a wheelchair because of an injury he sustained while organising the conference in Hammersmith.

I can tell you that Phil is one of the most generous guys in the business when it comes to sharing ideas and techniques. We spent the morning together, and he updated us on the latest business information.

We truly believe that if you are making a significant outlay in your wedding or portrait investment, you should seriously consider booking a photographer who has taken the time and commitment, both personal and financial, to update his or her expertise and professional development.

We left Phil and Juliet Jones planning next year's SWPP conference, to be held again in the Novotel Hammersmith - and packing their bags for WPPi in Vegas.

Photo Training Overseas

A big thank you to George and Glenys Dawber rang out from over 100 top professional photographers at the 22nd Photo Training Overseas course held at the spectacular Sofitel Hotel in Taba Heights, in Sinai province of Egypt.

Speakers flew in from all over the world to update practising professional photographers on developments in digital retouching, advances in technology, lighting and business.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet some of the most important people in our industry, including CEO Phil and Juliet Jones of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and Llewelyn Robins from the British Institute of Professional Photographers.

The weather was perfect, blue skies and all you'd wish for a summer's day. The hotel was iconic. All I want to do now is go through the photos we took and pretend we were back there again.

And share with you what we learned.

Summer weddings at Syon Park, Syon House

With the temperature below zero here in London, it's hard to believe that just a few months ago we were enjoying some wonderful weather. Smell that lavender! Close your eyes and you're in Provence.

We're just finishing Gwen and Cyrus' Jorgensen album from their Syon Park wedding. They live in the States so it's good to have broadband to preview the album design long distance. We're finding that more and more couples are choosing to marry in England though they live abroad. Their yen or euros might well go further here.

Our biggest regret of the year? Maybe we should have listened to our Turkish banker bride Asli who told us before her wedding last January that the emplyees at her bank had been told to sell all their sterling and convert it into euros. That bank definitely has a crystal ball.

But then, if you're job involves taking photographs at such a dream wedding location as Syon Park, perhaps it's just as well we stayed put.

SWPP conference Hammersmith

Any serious professional photographer needs to update his or her skills, contacts and products. January is an ideal time; we're not photographing weddings every weekend and the major suppliers visit the SWPP conference to showcase new products and educate us.

Harender and Hal are soon back from honeymoon in Kenya after a very special wedding ceremony and reception at Syon Park.

Harender arrived in style in a Karma taxi, gleaming in her gold sari. Pink was definitely the colour of the day and it worked really well in the darker autumnal light. We loved the Anglo-Indian mix at the Reception. Tony Patti of Sunrise Radio compered the evening and made the whole evening go with a swing. We loved the cake with Harender and Hal riding their elephant.

Fiona and John Black's Wedding pictures at St Bride's Fleet Street and Reception at The Stationers Hall

Fiona and John Black married yesterday are now on their flight to Kenya. The sun shone brilliantly for them and St Bride's Church looked magnificent. After the Ceremony Godfrey hitched a lift in the to-die-for white Rolls Royce to take some photos with the couple at different London landmarks while Susan headed straight for the Reception at The Stationers' Hall.

You wouldn't believe how difficult it is these days to park in London, even if the driver is still at the wheel. The situation isn't helped either if there is a demonstration on as streets can be closed off and the open ones become quickly busy with the extra traffic.

Fortunately, The Stationers' Hall is a gorgeous venue in its own right and we were able to take some great pictures in the streets nearby and in the Hall and its Garden.

The most romantic wedding venue in the world?

Asli and Sezen live in Istanbul - both are into banking and know the City well. They decided to get married and set themselves a challenge by fixing the date a few weeks later and in London. the first thing they had to pick was their wedding venue.

They wanted the place where they were to marry to be highly romantic. Not for them the Bosphorous with the moonlight glinting on the water and the midnight air heavy with the fragrance of lemons. Too predictable, and maybe too many friends and relatives might have to be invited?

Whatever the reason, London fitted the bill and Asli soon tracked down 30 Pavilion Road, a quintessentially English townhouse and very stylish, a stone's throw from Harrods.

Next, they did an internet search and tracked us down. They loved our style of photography and in particular wanted photographs of just the two of them walking the London streets.

They made time for this to happen and we picked a moment when the weather was ok. It was perfect for us: we appreciate couples who give us the time we need to enjoy the moment and capture the romance and emotion they are feeling.

The couple chose just about all of our street shots for their album - it was a fun to do and we're so glad that they had the wedding of their dreams.

Photographic retouching - when to do it?

We're all so used now to seeing pictures of airbrushed people in perfect settings that reality can be rather disappointing. It's easy to forget that it might have taken an age to set up the shot on location and that quite a bit of postproduction went on before the image was printed.

Wedding day photography, however well planned, can never be like a controlled photo shoot. Perhaps the weather isn't quite what was hoped for. Perhaps you've chosen a really lovely car, like this fabulous white Rolls Royce and then the caterers park their van just behind it. You can see the 'before' set up in an earlier blog entry. Michelle and Andrew particularly liked this photo and wanted a print made. Godfrey worked his magic, and voila, no more van.

Fiona and John are getting married on 20 September

September has started really well with a highly enjoyable pre-wedding photo shoot with Fiona and John who are getting married in less than 3 weeks now at St Bride's Church in Fleet Street, followed by a Reception at the Stationers Hall. They live in a fantastic flat in one of the two (?) white tiled buildings in the country. Best of all is their secluded roof terrace with its spectacular view.

Gwen Jones married her Cyrus at St Anne's Kew Green and red London buses toook the guests to Syon Park for the wedding reception. Drinks were served in the Inner courtyard at Syon House and then the wedding party moved to the Great Conservatory for their wedding breakfast.

The Cracked Pot did a fantastic job with their creative floristry. Again, Jalapeno's superb cuisine, under Charles Howard's watchful eye, delighted all the guests.

Lisa Bomba (from the US) reecently married Bruno Reinhard (from the Netherlands) at Syon Park.

Their reception was held in Syon Park's Great Conservatory. The floral artistry, by Dominic Hughes of Pot Pourri in Chiswick, was spectacular. Everybody (including us) enjoyed the delicious food provided by Charles Howard and his team at Jalapeno.

Kate Hughes Hair and Make up Design

Kate was the make up and hair designer yesterday at a celebrity wedding at an exclusive Oxfordshire wedding venue. As you can see from the photo, she can be counted on to do more than her bride booked her for. With countless weddings under her belt, Kate is handy with just about every wedding dress fastening, as you can see from Emma's gorgeous Maggie Sottero outfit.

While Kate was busy in Oxfordshire, we were photographing at Cambridge Cottage. But what was really nice for me was Kate calling in on her way to work to 'do' my hair. I loved the five star treatment and Godfrey loved my new look. And even the groom paid me a compliment.

So if I recommend Kate wholeheartedly, I speak from personal experience and from the feedback I've had from many of the brides we've both looked after.

Wanji and Henry have fixed their date and have chosen Cambridge Cottage, Kew Gardens for their ceremony and reception. If you get carried away photographing it, you might fall down one of the massive holes around. It sits on a vast badger set and probably no one ever spots them, since visitors leave well before they come out to play.

Not all staircases are the same. We're looking forward to returning to the Landmark Hotel in London where great wedding pictures are to be had all year round. The glass atrium in the winter garden is renowned for its natural light and THAT staircase, flanked by huge palm trees.

But a word of warning for staircase lovers - by their very nature they are in public areas and hotels are of course protective of the privacy of their other guests. We find that with a bit of planning and using photographers who know what they are doing, you'll be allowed to use the staircase for five minutes or so. A day with wedding photographer Damien Lovegrove

Fashion photography in Hoxton, shooting urban fashion portraits with top international wedding photographer Damien Lovegrove - who could resist the invitation to spend a day with him and 8 other fantastic photographers?

We met in The Hoxton Hotel http://www.hoxtonhotels.com/ which is a great place for us photographers to meet clients or relax in a contemporary atmosphere. And then we hit the streets, together with Rachel and Lucy-Ann. The streets around Old Street Tube offer fantastic photo opportunities, if only you have the eye and technical skill to capture them.

Damien shared his knowledge and expertise most generously. His aim was for every delegate to come away with photographs they could be proud of - and just as importantly, images that they could re-create in their own urban landscape.

Everyone was using professional kit, of course, with a good mix of Canon and Nikon cameras. Damien explained what he was doing and took care to ensure that every delegate had feedback on just about every image taken on the day. It was quite a steep learning curve for most, but top professional photographers today are providing timeless images for discerning clients.

Here are just a few of the scenes Damien set up. Those you see on this blog were simply captured on a small Canon Ixus and don't do justice to the images taken by the other photographers. More about family photographs

The past week has been spent sifting through piles of old family photographs, some dating back to pre-First World War. It's quite a collection and most of them are in good condition, lovingly mounted in period photo albums by my late parents.

Others are loose and faded, or they're badly damaged by the light. Some are incredibly battered, as if they've seen active service themselves. It will be quite a job to make them good again, but very satisfying to do.

Then there are the images in different formats, such as 35mm slides or photographic negatives. I'm not too concerned about all these because at least there is something physical there to work with later, when we have more time, hopefully.

No, the thing that most bothers me is the digital images. They're so vulnerable and hardly future proof. And there are so many now.

This last week I've started to tackle the problem, beginning with family holiday photographs. I gathered together the ones I liked the most from past happy summers in Gascony and I've made them into a book. It arrives tomorrow and I'll be happy knowing that I've got something tangible to share with my family.

Family photographs

One of the most inspirational speakers at the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers conference in Hammersmith last weekend was the hugely talented Australian photographer David A Williams.

He took us through an emotional tour of his own family photographs, going back to the 60's. The most important question he asked was, 'Do you have enough family photographs?' He then showed us his own personal archive, featuring those where there was a clear emotional connection between parent and child.

There weren't nearly enough, and of course, the parent taking the photographs was rarely on record. What a disappointment for a child revisiting his/her childhood in later years, desirous of that loving evidence of human attachment.

The message was that we should all take more family photographs. Record the daily quotidien, however mundane it may seem at the time. That picture of a well loved toy will be a treasure to your child in 20/30 years. As will that loving arm around a shoulder, or a parent cuddling a toddler.

We should all take more family photographs and we photographers should offer this service to our couples. And why don't we? Pressure of time, maybe. Or it needs to be a grand occasion. And perhaps it seems expensive to pay a professional photographer to capture the moment.

January is a busy time for us

Our weddings start again with a bang next Friday and we've been able to make the most of the post New Year break to prepare for the season ahead.

Firstly, we've invested over £6k in new camera bodies. It's important to keep up with the latest technology and Nikon have great products. It's also reassuring to have top quality back up bodies in our bags.

And then there's the very important Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers convention at Hammersmith. Spread over a long weekend, it's a fantastic opportunity to be inspired by photographers who've flown in from all over the world . There's a tempting trade show where the leading suppliers display the latest prints, gizmos and albums. We'll have lots of up to date ideas as we start shooting weddings again next week.

Emma and Mark love spot colour and we were delighted to make the hot pink gerberas zing. They came round last night to collect their GraphiStudio wedding books - with mini books as Christmas prezzies for friends and family. We're so pleased they're delighted with their wedding photos. Buxted Park is a fabulous wedding venue and we look forward to returning again this year.

A very wet day was had by all and a terrific time too

Cold wet December afternoons aren't dream winter wedding weather and the traffic snarls up, making everything late, late. late. And when the poor Groom leaves the CD with all the Church music behind at the hotel and the Order of service doesn't arrive until the ceremony is well underway, it's fantastic when everyone pulls together to make the wedding go with a swing.

Thanks to Father Raja's CD collection, Jenny looked radiant as she walked up the aisle with her father to the cheerful Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. The Order of Service turned up before half time and the rain eased off (a bit...) when the bridal party emerged. No confetti, alas, as it had been mislaid somewhere. Perhaps a good thing as damp red bits can stain a white dress.

A great welcome was there for us all at The London Marriott West India Quay. Lisa Warren and her team had made the Ballroom stunning and smoothed disappointment of the non show of the booked Frank Sinatra act. We photographers had the chance to catch up on some requested group shots, everyone had the opportunity to write their good wishes on the signature mount. And then the meal was served. It was absolutely outstanding. Top class.

It goes to show that rain by itself doesn't necessarily spoil a wedding day - but London traffic is unforgiving and you need to allow a lot more time than you think for travelling around the capital. Especially when the rugby's on in Twickenham or there are some home games going on.

Our new studio and office development

We're very fortunate to have our own architecturally designed photographic studio to welcome couples. It's a great space with north facing lights so we can take great pictures and use the best possible filtered light. It gives fantastic results.

Now we're looking to develop our home office/work space which our clients don't usually see. We face the same challenges shared by many people who work from home. How to make the most of what you already have? How to add value to your house? How to combine work and family life? And add value to your property?

Simon Smith, a trained architect from Betternest http://www.betternest.co.uk/ has come to our rescue. He visited us today for a consultation on our garden room. Planning laws will change next year and we all have a window of opportunity to add value to our properties. It sometimes takes an outsider to spot the potential can that can be unlocked in a home and we're very excited to be working with him and his team.

We love it when we're booked to photograph a wedding at Cliveden House in Berkshire. Weddings don't come more glamorous than this and the House is looking great, even though the formal parterres look their best in the summer.

We did a great pre-wedding shoot there, making the most of the sun - actually even when it's pouring, there are plenty fantastic rooms inside. We find that Cliveden clients value privacy and discretion, so we won't mention any names. You know who you are! Thanks for choosing us as your wedding photographers.

We've updated our website

Over the summer, we've rather neglected our blog - we've been busy shooting weddings and updating our website. It's now a lot more useful to our couples, with real life weddings, links to venues and recommended suppliers.

Our homepage venue sums up our approach - fine art photography with hommage to the great French masters, firmly based in the twenty first century and with an eye to capturing the fun and excitement of the day.

We still have a few bugs to fix on the site, and lots of new information to add. Our website will keep us busy until the Christmas wedding season starts. And we hope it will add value to our service, particularly for all the 2008 couples who have already booked us as their wedding photographers.

It's worth checking with your priest/registrar that photography is allowed during your ceremony - and spelling out how important your wedding pictures will be to you and your family. In a recent wedding, we weren't allowed to take any pictures at all during the Church service. It's a great shame. All the good photographers we know are very discreet and make every effort to keep a low profile, while getting some great pictures. We managed to catch up at the Reception, of course, but it's a pity not to have photographs of the couple exchanging their vows with all the accompanying emotions.

This was an amazingly well kept secret! Charlotte (now Mrs Ng) sprung a noisy, colourful surprise on her Groom. Everybody was told they had to do yet another group photograph, this time outside the main house so they all dutifully obliged, including us photographers. And out of the bushes, right on cue, sprang this very friendly dragon and his band of drummers. You'll have to wait until you see your photographs to gaze at Jason's expression at this point. He was absolutely delighted and completely taken unawares.

Ruth and Sanjiv's Wedding at The Vineyard, Stockcross

Ruth and Sanjiv chose the amazing Vineyard at Stockcross for their civil ceremony and first reception. We meet again next Saturday for more celebrations in London - so we won't give too much away yet. Saturday had its wet and windy moments but it was really cosy inside, the Music Room looked fabulous for the ceremony and everyone enjoyed the California Bar in between. The Vineyard is renowned for its exquisite cuisine and top class service. It lived up to its reputation on Saturday and Maren was as charming and professional as ever. The sun came out in the afternoon too and we made the most of this opportunity.

Little known fact - during the Second World War 69 bombs fell on Syon Park. Fortunately the Great Conservatory, created by the architect-engineer Charles Fowler of gun-metal and Bath stone, was spared. It is a wonderful space, transformed into a magical Reception venue. Whatever your colour scheme, you won't be disappointed.

A perfect honeymoon destination

Every couple should honeymoon at least once a year. We're just back from ours; we went to Venice. It was perfect - amazing April weather, beautiful sights and relaxing canal walks or rides in vaporetti. Incredibly romantic.

So to all our 2007 couples, we say have a wonderful time on your honeymoon, wherever your dreams are taking you. To our 2008 clients, we say - think Venice, out of season.

Ekaterina and Victor are marrying at The Vineyard, Stockcross

Ekaterina and Victor have set their date: Friday 1 June and it's going to be a fantastic day. They came round to our studio this morning for their pre wedding shoot. It's a lovely hot April day today (it's 8 degrees in Moscow guys) so we took some shots in the garden

They're both great fun and very photogenic. Ekaterina showed me a picture of her wedding dress when Victor wasn't looking. It's stunning. I'm sure the Jimmy Choos will be as well.

Louise and Christopher get married on May 5 in Syon Park - it was great to see them yesterday when they visited our stand. Amazing that in 5 weeks Louise will be coming through the door behind her, in all her wedding finery. They're a very smiley couple and very much in love. We missed Sarah and Richard from Capture It - they had the best excuse not to be there - photographing a wedding at Warren House. Their stand looked terrific as did their albums on display. http://www.captureit.co.uk/

Beccy Thorpe told us that when Syon's diary for 2008 opened recently, 22 couples booked in one day. We met quite a few couples, or parents, who were planning weddings next year and also other wedding suppliers.

We're preparing for a busy wedding season and we're very much looking forward to returning to some favourite locations.

Syon House http://www.syonpark.co.uk, a fantastic wedding venue, is holding its Annual Open Day on Saturday 31 March and they've invited us to come along as one of their 'excellent approved suppliers to show our work to couples who are thinking of Syon as their wedding venue in 2008.
